Also on May 31, 2015 Bangladesh Forest Department recognized 204.25 hectares of forest land in this area as Special Biodiversity Conservation Area. The Ratargul Swamp Forest is located on the banks of the Gwain River and is connected to the Chengir Canal.The Ratargul Swamp Forest consists of many vegetation types. 

The trees here are under water for four to seven months of the year and the forest is submerged 20 to 30 feet under water during the monsoon season, while the water level is up to 10 feet during the rest of the year. Ratargul is located in Fatehpur Union of Goainghat in Sylhet south of Gwain river. Its distance from Sylhet city is 26 km. 

Ratargul is named after the rata tree locally known as murta or pati tree. The beauty of Ratargul can be enjoyed the most during the monsoon season. You have to travel by boat inside the forest.
