Effects of global warming and its possible consequences in Bangladesh

The effects of global warming and its possible consequences in Bangladesh is a current hot topic. It is important for each of us to have overall knowledge in this regard. This post discusses this in detail.

Effects of global warming and its possible consequences in Bangladesh
Due to the effect of global warming, there has been a huge change in the climate of Bangladesh. Due to its effect, public life is endangered. Let's learn about the effects of global warming and its possible consequences in Bangladesh.

Introduction

Global warming is a very important issue for human life. It is our moral responsibility and duty to know about this. In our discussion section, what is global warming, causes of global warming, effects of global warming, effects of global warming in Bangladesh and remedies for global warming are discussed in detail.

Global warming

Another name for warming is temperature rise. Global warming means an increase in the average temperature of the atmosphere which is having an important influence at present. Due to this, we are going through a difficult time. Due to this, the possible consequences for Bangladesh are dire.

Causes global warming

One of the main causes of global warming is the abnormal increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. These gases include nitrous oxide, methane, carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and  ozone. The increase in greenhouse gases is mainly attributed to human activities and the combustion of fossil fuels that began with the industrial era.

Effects of global warming

Sea level rise: Due to the effect of global warming, the ice of the Antarctic continent has started melting due to which the sea level is increasing every year. A recent incident has left us wondering. The world's largest ice block named (A23a) with an area of about four thousand square kilometers which is one-third of the size of Bangladesh has broken off from its original place and is drifting in the sea.

According to IPCC (The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), if the global warming increases, the height of the sea water surface will increase by 20 to 80 cm in the next 100 years. As a result of which many coastal countries or different regions of coastal countries will sink into the sea, including Bangladesh.

Climate change: Earth's warmest years are counted from 1995. Temperatures in Siberia have increased by three to five degrees Celsius compared to previous centuries. Half of the ice in Europe's Alps mountain has melted since 1850. The IPCC report states that a rise in global average temperature of 0.6 degrees will result in a 20 cm rise in sea level.

A type of marine fish such as penguins and krill which are the food of animals lived in Antarctica, are declining as polar sea levels rise. Precipitation in the Mediterranean climate region, which used to be high, has decreased due to global warming. Tropical regions are getting hotter and drier.

Melting glaciers: The polar ice caps, which have been accumulating for thousands of years, are beginning to melt, and the rate of melting is so high that one-third of the ice will melt completely within 80 years. The huge ice block that has been frozen in Antarctica for many years has started melting today. Half of the ice in the Hindu Kush Mountains will melt even if global warming can limit temperature increases to 2 degrees Celsius.

Increase in the possibility of floods: Due to the effect of global warming, various natural disasters such as storms, floods etc. are occurring. Bangladesh is now facing floods every year in different areas which is increasing the suffering of the people day by day resulting in massive loss of crops.

Increased probability of droughts: Due to global warming, the amount of rainfall has decreased in various places, thereby increasing the tendency of droughts there. An increase in the incidence of drought has reduced the probability of good quality crops on cropland, which has a negative impact on a country's economy.

Heat Flow: Heat flow is an important factor in the increased likelihood of many weather-related disasters due to global warming. The amount of heat flow between tropical regions has increased. As a result, the loss of human lives has increased.

In 2023 Global Temperatures Reached a New High Record

Copernicus Climate Change Service claimed that 2023 is most likely the warmest year on record in the last 100,000 years. The European Union's climate agency has recorded 2023 as the hottest year on Earth in the last 100,000 years.

Scientists were concerned about this milestone when climate records were being broken. Since June, each month has set a new record for the hottest on record when compared to the same month in previous years.

"This year has been truly extraordinary in terms of climate, standing apart from other extremely warm years", said Carlo Buontempo, director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S). C3S confirmed 2023 as the warmest year since 1850.

Our Earth was 1.48 degrees Celsius (2.66 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer in 2023 than it was in 1850-1900. Yet humans continue to burn fossil fuels on an industrial scale and pump carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

In the 2015 Paris Agreement, countries agreed to aim to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius to prevent the serious consequences associated with climate change. Although the world has not breached that target, nearly half of the daytime temperatures in 2023 have set a grim precedent.

As a result, the effect of this global warming and its possible consequences in Bangladesh are also dire. In 2023, global carbon dioxide emissions from burning coal, oil and gas are expected to hit record levels. C3S says CO2 concentrations will rise to the highest level recorded in 2023 at 419 parts per million.

Record-warming weather in 2023 increase deadly heat waves from China to Europe, due to extreme rains  thousands of people died in Libya. Canada faced worst wildfire season on record.

Effect of global warming in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a country of six seasons. Due to the effect of global warming, our seasons have also undergone many changes such that the right season is not coming at the right time. Extreme heat during summer and extreme cold during winter which is making human life miserable also we are facing huge losses in agriculture.

As a result of global warming, the incidence of floods has increased many times compared to previous years, destroying cropland and affecting the economy. As a result of global warming, the sea level is increasing, there is a possibility of submerging the coastal areas of Bangladesh such as Chittagong Cox's Bazar.

Remedies for global warming

At present global warming has become so pronounced that its remedy is the need of the hour. Concerns about the dangers of global warming first emerged in 1965 among American scientists. To remedy this we can take the following steps,
  • Reducing fuel consumption.
  • Prevents wastage of petroleum.
  • Reducing indiscriminate deforestation.
  • Non-conventional energy such as increasing the use of organic fertilizers.
  • Do not burn plastic polybags in open fields.
  • Disposing of industrial waste according to established regulations.

last words

Global warming now poses a threat to every country worldwide. Preventing the effects of global warming and its potential consequences in Bangladesh is as important for Bangladesh as it is for every country. Many countries have already started working to prevent the effects of global warming.

Bangladesh should also come forward to protect its existence. Dear readers, I hope this post is carries a lot of importance to you. Follow my website to get more new information, thanks. Comment to know more.
